This workshop has been designed specifically for Exploration Geologists and Exploration Superintendents.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

In a series of eight lectures presented during the intensive two day workshop, the presenter, Dr David Lawie, will provide an insight into the essential skills and methodologies required for accurate and Insightful geochemical interpretation. Dr Lawie will provide detailed demonstrations on the workshop content using ioGAS, the development of which Dr Lawie played a key part and in which he has over 10 years’ experience. He will also discuss new developments in on-site geoanalysis and their ramifications with regards to established workflows and Processes.

THE WORKSHOP INCLUDES:

GEOCHEMISTRY ESSENTIALS

Sorting signal from noise, basic chemical principles; important elemental groupings and pathfinder associations pertinent to mineral deposits; primary and secondary dispersion processes; economics of dispersion.

 

INTRODUCTION TO EXPLORATORY DATA ANALYSIS AND ioGAS

Data validation and conditioning; descriptive statistics; box and whisker plots, histograms, probability plots; scatter plots, tri plots; data levelling; attribute Maps, and gridding.

 

REGOLITH AND SURFICIAL PROCESSES

Regolith framework for exploration geochemistry; sampling strategies and different sampling media; sampling transported cover; stream sediments and soils.

 

LITHOGEOCHEMISTRY

An introduction to lithogeochemistry; data requirements; the concept of closure; rock type classification; methodologies for mapping and quantification of alteration and target enhancement.

QAQC and GEOANALYSIS

Sample preparation protocols; multielement analytical methods; gold assaying; laboratory best practices; sample digestions and analysis; pXRF, partial leaches and QAQC principles.

 

ADVANCED EXPLORATORY DATA ANALYSIS WITH EXAMPLES FROM ioGAS

Map based visualisation; multivariate plots; outlier detection; robust regression and residuals; clustering; principal components analysis and discriminant projection analysis.

 

GEOMETALLURGY

Using assaying and other data to determine mineralogy and estimate key metallurgical performance parameters.

 

ioGAS ADVANCED TECHNIQUES and CASE STUDIES

Case studies using ioGAS that illustrate the concepts covered throughout the workshop. Covers automated outlier mapping; RGB element zonation; creating your own diagrams, presentation of results.

Dave is a graduate of the University of New England and has held global positions in Exploration Geochemistry and Research with both Pasminco and Anglo American before joining ioGlobal as Managing Director in 2004. ioGlobal provided geochemistry and geometallurgical consulting services, cloud based data management and the ioGAS desktop software. In late 2012 ioGlobal was sold to Imdex and is now part of the REFLEX Division. As Global Product Manager – Geosciences, Dave’s role now involves rolling out these services through a global network and moving REFLEX into real-time, at rig geoanalysis technologies.
