While global mineral exploration is still nowhere near its last peak in 2012, IMDEX has won new investors in a period when the few genuine mining technology stocks offering exposure to the industry’s seemingly growing appetite for tech have been more closely scrutinised in the Australia, North American and London […]

Published by CEO Magazine 17 October 2019 https://www.theceomagazine.com/executive-interviews/it-electronics/bernie-ridgeway/ With passion, commitment and the right vision, Imdex Managing Director Bernie Ridgeway believes anything is possible. Bernie Ridgeway isn’t afraid of hard work. Before he joined Imdex as Managing Director in 2000, the company was struggling. In the September issue of GeoDrilling International, Dr Michelle Carey, general manager – product development at IMDEX, discusses future challenges and the key disrupters, innovations and collaborations within the mineral exploration industry In my view the three greatest challenges for mineral exploration in the future are firstly the need to explore underground cover and at greater depths. The easy surface ore bodies have been found and resource companies are mining their reserves faster than they are replacing them. Secondly, the changing skillsets for geologists as there will be an increasing need for data science and analysis, rather than ‘rock licking’. […]

Productivity demands have heightened the reliance that mining companies are placing on automation, big data and digital applications, potentially changing the face of mining. The transformative impact of the digital revolution has been felt in virtually every sector of the economy, upending business models and operational practices, but the mining sector has mostly retained its traditional characteristics. But change is afoot.
