Our History

REFLEX was founded in Sweden in 1947 and was acquired by leading Mining-Tech company IMDEX, in 2006. Since the 1970s, REFLEX’s technologies have played a key role in advancement of the minerals industry – including the introduction of the first digital survey tools in the late 1990s and the first digital core orientation tools in the 2000’s to replace analogue tools. Combined with the technologies developed from the other companies acquired and consolidated by IMDEX under the REFLEX brand (Chardec, Flexit, SEG, ioGlobal and 2iC), REFLEX technologies have been used in the discovery and development of most of the world’s metalliferous mines in recent decades The metals from these mines are part of our everyday lives.

REFLEX’s technologies have also been used in non-mining applications. Noteworthy examples include:

  • The alignment of the British and French sides of the Channel Tunnel, which opened in 1994;
  • Site investigation at Ground Zero, New York, in 2004 after the Twin Towers 9/11 tragedy; and
  • The London Crossrail project in 2015

The company’s technologies and personnel were also used in the successful Chilean mine rescue in 2010, where 33 men were trapped 700 meters (2,300 ft) underground for 69 days.

Following IMDEX’s acquisition of ioGlobal in 2012, REFLEX has expanded its digital presence within the global minerals industry – including the first mineral exploration Internet of Things and cloud-capability, which enables its new generation subsurface sensors and technologies to provide real-time data to clients anywhere and at any time.
