Seamless ioGAS integration just the start for Micromine 2020

Collaboration between two leading mining software providers, MICROMINE and IMDEX, has brought together detailed geoscience analytics with sophisticated 3D modelling and mine design software to enhance the geological modelling workflow. MICROMINE worked with its industry peer for several months to integrate output from IMDEX’s ioGAS solution into the next major release of its 3D modelling and mine design software – Micromine 2020 – which will be launched later this year. The collaboration means geoscientists will be able to directly import ioGAS (.gas) files into Micromine 2020 software to map and model geological domains. Micromine Product Strategy Manager Mark Gabbitus said […]

New technology to sweep away old drilling habits

Leading global mining-tech company IMDEX is grappling with industry issues to improve exploration drilling productivity rates that have not moved significantly for 30 years — just as the mining industry searches deeper and deeper for new deposits. IMDEX Global Product Manager Nick Payne says more money than ever is being spent on drilling programs without achieving better outcomes. Speaking at the annual Xploration Technology Symposium in Vancouver in January, Mr Payne said more time was being spent to drill less and to find less . “It is taking us longer to complete drill programs as holes get deeper and by […]

The next major improvements in core drilling

Have you ever wondered about the diamonds in a diamond drill bit? Kelvin Brown, from IMDEX, has given this subject a lot of thought and he recently shared his ideas on what the future holds for drill bits and core sampling with GeoDrilling International. Unlike the James Bond theme song by Shirley Bassey, diamonds are not forever when it comes to diamond drilling. Companies continue to try to refine the synthetic diamond core bit, altering the size and concentration of the diamonds and the composition of the matrix, but as far as IMDEX global lead, Directional Drilling, Kelvin Brown is […]

Finding the metals for a decarbonised future

At least 120 countries and an increasing number of companies globally have committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, throwing the focus on the dramatic changes needed to achieve such an ambitious target. The International Energy Agency, in its World Energy Outlook 2020 report, said that reaching net zero emissions globally by 2050 would demand a set of dramatic actions over the next 10 years. Achieving a 40 per cent reduction in emissions by 2030 would require low-emission sources to provide nearly 75 per cent of global electricity generation in 2030 (up from less than 40 per cent in […]
