Cloud-based instruments keeps drilling data flowing – even at home

Drilling contractors and resource companies impacted by COVID-19 restrictions can continue to operate by using cloud-connected sensors that deliver and analyse critical data, says leading global Mining-Tech company IMDEX. Despite restrictions disrupting travel and work, IMDEX says key clients can still make time-critical decisions backed by accurate data delivered in real-time. The majority of the company’s clients have indicated they intend to keep operating while working within government-imposed restrictions in each region globally and with the main priority of keeping their workers safe. “People are still trying to work,” IMDEX Structural-IQ Global Product Manager Nick Payne said. “We are working […]

Improving the core logging process through simple, powerful workflows

Core logging can be highly subjective and the quality of the logging depends greatly on a geologist’s core logging experience. Combining near real-time data with rapid data analysis can support geologists by providing critical, repeatable and objective information prior to logging the core. In this webinar, IMDEX Product Managers Fred Blaine and James Cleverley will demonstrate powerful but simple to use workflows to enhance your core logging process; speeding up the logging process, while helping identify lithological units and key geological boundaries. Fred and James will demonstrate an end-to-end workflow from data collection to analysis and visualisation using REFLEX EZ-GAMMA, IMDEXHUB-IQ and IMDEX ioGAS. In […]

Webinar recording: Introduction to IMDEX ioGAS

In conjunction with Geological Society’s Early Career Network and Society of Economic Geologists’ Early Career Professionals Committee, IMDEX Global Product Manager – Geosciences, James Cleverley and IMDEX Chief Geoscientist, Dave Lawie presented this introductory webinar to demonstrate the use of IMDEX ioGAS software for processing geoscience data. IMDEX ioGAS is found commonly in the mineral industry and increasingly in other geoscientific disciplines. The software is designed to put tools and workflows into your hands to better extract value from data. This workshop will start with a talk that demonstrates the philosophy and techniques we need to consider when analysing data. […]

Ore body knowledge can save mining projects from an extinction event

Obtaining comprehensive ore body knowledge should not be seen as a cost, it is an investment that has the potential to avoid company-destroying mistakes, says mining and minerals processing expert Dr John Steen. He said the mining industry was struggling to attract new investment capital because it had a history of poor returns to shareholders. Recent analysis showed that much of this poor performance was attributable to write-downs on capital projects because of inadequate investment in gathering information about the orebody. While the industry paid a lot of attention to gathering data such as reserve size and grade to prove […]

The next major improvements in core drilling

Have you ever wondered about the diamonds in a diamond drill bit? Kelvin Brown, from IMDEX, has given this subject a lot of thought and he recently shared his ideas on what the future holds for drill bits and core sampling with GeoDrilling International. Unlike the James Bond theme song by Shirley Bassey, diamonds are not forever when it comes to diamond drilling. Companies continue to try to refine the synthetic diamond core bit, altering the size and concentration of the diamonds and the composition of the matrix, but as far as IMDEX global lead, Directional Drilling, Kelvin Brown is […]

Finding the metals for a decarbonised future

At least 120 countries and an increasing number of companies globally have committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, throwing the focus on the dramatic changes needed to achieve such an ambitious target. The International Energy Agency, in its World Energy Outlook 2020 report, said that reaching net zero emissions globally by 2050 would demand a set of dramatic actions over the next 10 years. Achieving a 40 per cent reduction in emissions by 2030 would require low-emission sources to provide nearly 75 per cent of global electricity generation in 2030 (up from less than 40 per cent in […]
